Custom Metrics - Multidimensional Analysis

Dynatrace out-of-the-box metrics generally focus on availability, failure rate, and performance. Of course, there are many other use cases for service metrics that are specific to a particular service, a particular customer, or for whatever reason have significant relevance for your business.

You can create custom metrics using the Multidimensional Analysis (Diagnostic Tools > Create Analysis View). You will be able to plot your custom metric and see if it's what you're expecting.

To create the custom metric, follow these steps:

  1. Add the following line to the config
  • MyNewMetric: template-custom-metric.json
  1. Customize your metrics:

MyNewMetric:

  • name: cd_mycomponent ReqPerInstance
  • mz: cd_mycomponent
  • key: calc:service.cdmycomponentReqPerInstance
  • splitByDimension: {Service:Instance}
